LIVERPOOL MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT AND THREATS TOWARDS PARTNER
Gary Farthing, a 35-year-old man of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 14 months in prison for a prolonged assault on his long-term partner, which involved attacking her with a metal pole and threatening to cut her face with a Stanley knife.
The court was told that Farthing had consumed 14 cans of lager and taken cocaine before the incident occurred.
The attack included slapping his partner, pulling her hair, punching, spitting, and inflicting bruises on her head, right arm, torso, and leg.
The assault intensified when he chased her with a metal bar and struck her on the head, causing her to fall and be unable to defend herself.
Additionally, he threatened her with the Stanley knife, saying, 'You are not getting back in here, if you do I will cut your face.' Farthing was arrested later that day and was found to be of no fixed abode.
The judge, Recorder Paul Taylor, described his actions as 'too prolonged, too brutal' and emphasized that men who beat their wives need to be aware they will serve prison time.
Farthing expressed regret, admitting to the assault, and was described as ashamed of himself during the court proceedings.
