MAN, 25, RAPED SOBBING, VULNERABLE WOMAN THREE TIMES AND TOLD HER: "BE QUIET AND STAY STILL"
A man found guilty of raping the same vulnerable woman on three separate occasions has received a 10-year prison sentence.Gary Corcoran, aged 25 and of Upper Brook Street, Rusholme, was convicted of three counts of rape, two of sexual assault, and one charge of compelling an individual to engage in sexual activity.
During the sentencing at Manchester Crown Court, prosecutor Joe Allman informed Judge Suzanne Goddard that the victim had suffered multiple health issues and that Corcoran had taken measures to prevent her from seeking help.
Mr.
Allman also noted that Corcoran had arranged to meet her despite restrictions imposed by bail conditions in 2019.
He added, "Each of the offences was committed under the influence of alcohol," and further remarked, "There had been an attempt to hide evidence." The jury had heard during last week’s trial that the woman fought back and even bit Corcoran during one of the assaults.
In a particularly distressing incident, he told the crying woman to "be quiet and stay still." When she retaliated by biting his hand, Corcoran, who is a father and the brother of a police officer, called her a "f***ing bitch." Judge Suzanne Goddard QC emphasized that the gravity of Corcoran’s crimes was worsened by the vulnerability of his victim.
She also addressed Corcoran directly, saying, "When you were on bail, you were not supposed to contact her, yet you continued to see her." While considering his mental health issues, she sentenced him to ten years in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender, stating, "I consider you to be a dangerous individual towards women."
