JORDAN GARRY/SCALLY SENTENCED IN EDINBURGH FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES

A court disclosed that 23-year-old Jordan Garry, also known as Scally, made a troubling admission during a pre-sentencing interview, expressing that if he could return to that time, he would have sought consent from his victim before engaging in sexual activities.

Garry, convicted of rape and sexual assault after a trial at Edinburgh High Court last month, received a four-year prison sentence. During the sentencing hearing, solicitor advocate Iain Paterson explained that Garry acknowledged his improper actions, stating, "He said to me that it was wrong on his part and if he could go back to that day, he’d make sure that he had consent. ‘He would ask her.’"

The judge, Lord Arthurson, highlighted the severity of the crimes, emphasizing that a custodial sentence was the only appropriate outcome. He also ordered Garry, a first-time offender, to be registered on the Sex Offenders Register for life. The court detailed Garry’s offending history, which included sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl between September 2018 and May 2019, as well as raping a woman in October 2019.

The court noted Garry’s background, including a troubled childhood, a diagnosis of ADHD, and current struggles with anxiety and depression for which he is receiving medication. Despite describing Garry as a vulnerable and immature young man, Lord Arthurson underscored that the seriousness of his crimes warranted the custodial sentence and lifelong sex offender registration.
