GARRY WYNN FROM LYTHAM SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE VOYEURISM IN PHILIPPINES

In December 2016, a disturbing case emerged involving Garry Wynn, a resident of Lytham, who was convicted and sentenced to 32 months in prison for his involvement in child exploitation activities. Wynn, a businessman operating an IT firm that held contracts with various central government agencies, was found guilty of paying to watch live-streamed abuse of a young girl in the Philippines from the comfort of his own home.

The investigation into Wynn’s activities was initiated after child exploitation units received intelligence indicating that he was engaged in viewing live streams of child abuse. Such acts are particularly heinous because they involve not only the viewing of child abuse material but also the direct financial contribution to the ongoing exploitation of the victims. Judge James Adkin emphasized the severity of Wynn’s actions, stating, “Watching videos of children being abused is bad enough but paying to watch the live abuse of a child means you are making a direct contribution — that child is being abused for your gratification.”

Prosecutor Lisa Worsley detailed the police operation that led to Wynn’s arrest. Last year, authorities executed a warrant at Wynn’s residence on Linnet Lane in Lytham, seizing his laptop and iPhone. Forensic analysis of these devices uncovered horrifying images depicting girls aged between eight and sixteen engaged in sexual abuse. It was revealed that Wynn, who is married and a father of two, is now residing in St Annes.

Wynn pleaded guilty to facilitating a sexual offence and possessing indecent images classified across categories A, B, and C. It was also disclosed that he had previously received a caution in 2003 for similar conduct. As part of his sentence, Wynn was ordered to sign the Sex Offender’s Register for life, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes.

During the court proceedings, Wynn’s defense lawyer, Janet Ironfield, expressed her client’s remorse, stating that he was disappointed in himself for “falling back into his old ways” after more than a decade. She explained that Wynn had been candid with police, acknowledging that his use of pornography was a coping mechanism for stress. Ironfield clarified that the majority of Wynn’s pornography consumption involved adult material, but he had also developed an interest in viewing pubescent children, which ultimately led him to seek out illegal content.

Further details revealed that Wynn’s professional life was adversely affected by his convictions. His IT consultancy firm was forced to shut down after losing government contracts due to his criminal record. The court heard that Wynn had engaged in chat room transactions between 2012 and 2014, and in December 2014, he admitted to paying for a 14-year-old girl to perform a sex act streamed to him for payment. The investigation indicated that Wynn had collaborated with others in sharing sexual images and engaging in what was described as a form of commercial exploitation.

Judge Adkin concluded by highlighting the gravity of Wynn’s actions, emphasizing the involvement in transactions and the sharing of images that underscored the exploitation of minors. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat child abuse and the importance of holding offenders accountable for their heinous crimes.
