GARRY GANNON FROM PERTH AND KINROSS STEALS OVER £12K AND RINGS FROM FRAIL GRANDMOTHER
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Perth and Kinross, Garry Gannon, aged 35, was sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of a series of thefts targeting his own grandmother. The crimes, which occurred over a span of several months, involved the theft of a significant sum of money as well as valuable jewelry from a woman described as frail, recently widowed, and suffering from dementia.Gannon, a care worker by profession, was identified as the perpetrator after authorities uncovered his involvement in the thefts. According to court records, he stole a bank card from his grandmother’s residence in Perth and subsequently used it to withdraw a total of £12,269.62 from a cash machine at Morrison’s supermarket in Perth. These withdrawals took place between October 31 of the previous year and December 28.
In addition to the financial theft, Gannon also stole two rings from his grandmother’s home, with the thefts occurring between October 31 and January 14. The court heard that his grandmother was particularly vulnerable, described as very frail and suffering from dementia, which made her an easy target for such exploitation.
During the proceedings, fiscal depute Alan Kempton emphasized the severity of the case, highlighting the grandmother’s vulnerable state and the betrayal of trust involved. Gannon himself expressed remorse, telling police that he was “riddled with guilt” over his actions. Despite his remorse, the court decided that a custodial sentence was appropriate given the nature of the crimes and the impact on the victim.
Gannon’s actions have left a lasting scar on his family and the local community, raising concerns about the safety of vulnerable individuals and the importance of safeguarding those who cannot protect themselves. His sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of exploiting trust and the importance of accountability in such cases.
