GARETH ROBINSON FROM MERTHYR TYDFIL JAILED FOR GROOMING CHILD ONLINE IN SHOCKING CASE

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Merthyr Tydfil, Gareth Robinson, a 55-year-old gym worker, was recently convicted of serious sexual offences involving online grooming. The incident came to light after vigilant online child protection teams, operating under the alias 'Redemption,' identified and confronted Robinson during his attempt to engage with what he believed was a 12-year-old girl.

Robinson’s actions unfolded in July 2018, when he initiated contact with what he thought was a young girl’s online profile. The court was informed that Robinson had sent highly explicit messages, clearly aimed at initiating sexual activity with the minor. These messages included graphic language and sexual content, which demonstrated his intent to exploit the child.

Further evidence presented in court revealed that Robinson had also shared several videos. These videos depicted him engaging in explicit acts, including masturbation and inserting objects into his bottom. Such material underscored the severity of his misconduct and his willingness to engage in sexually explicit behavior.

However, the individual Robinson believed to be a 12-year-old girl was, in fact, an adult member of the online child protection team known as 'Redemption.' This team specializes in monitoring and confronting online predators to prevent harm to minors. Once the team identified Robinson’s activities, they took immediate action by contacting law enforcement authorities. The police responded swiftly, leading to Robinson’s arrest and subsequent charging.

Gareth Robinson denied the allegations, pleading not guilty at his trial. Despite his denial, the jury was presented with substantial evidence of his guilt. After careful deliberation, the jury found Robinson guilty of the charges brought against him.

Following his conviction, the court sentenced Robinson to a three-year prison term. Additionally, he was subjected to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, which restricts his activities and contact with minors.
