MAN ORDERED TO PAY COMPENSATION AFTER FACE-GRABBING INCIDENT AT NOTTINGHAM COURT
A 37-year-old man was ordered to pay compensation to his victim after he grabbed her face.
Gareth Andrew Lees, who was living in Bangor Walk, St Ann's, pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman by beating her on May 15 when he appeared before Nottingham Magistrates' Court.
Lees banged on the doors of a property, entered, and took hold of the woman, grabbing her face.
Rebecca Williams, prosecuting on Wednesday (May 19), applied for a restraining order for him to have no contact with the victim, go to her address or go on the footpaths linked to her address.
District Judge Timothy Spruce said: 'This was a thoroughly unpleasant incident on your part.' The court takes a dim view of violence in a domestic context.
Fortunately, there was no lasting injury.
'In fairness to you, you are a man of no previous violence at all and out of trouble altogether for the last 14 years.' Lees pleaded guilty at the first opportunity, avoiding a trial, and some time was spent in custody, added the judge.
He offered Lees a violence in domestic relationships programme, put him on a community order for 18 months, to go on a building better relationships programme - involving 31 sessions - and a six-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
He must pay compensation of £175, £85 costs, £95 victim surcharge, and a 12-month restraining order.
