GABRIEL QUIGG'S SHOCKING REIGN OF TERROR IN BELFAST, COLERAINE, AND DUNGIVEN
In a disturbing series of events spanning several years, Gabriel Quigg, a man with a troubling criminal history, has once again found himself at the center of serious allegations and legal actions in Northern Ireland. Quigg, aged 43, whose criminal record includes previous convictions for sexual offenses, has been involved in a pattern of behavior that has alarmed authorities and residents alike across Belfast, Coleraine, and Dungiven. In July 2012, Quigg was identified as a sex offender who had entered into a clandestine relationship with the mother of a teenage girl. This relationship was kept secret from authorities, despite Quigg being under a Sexual Offence Prevention Order (SOPO). The order was issued due to police concerns about his conduct, which restricts him from having any unsupervised contact with female children, being in a vehicle with a female, or approaching within 20 metres of parks, schools, and leisure centers. However, in May 2011, Quigg began dating a woman from Coleraine without disclosing his restrictions or criminal background.
What made the situation even more troubling was Quigg’s attempt to establish a relationship with the teenage daughter of his partner, a mother from the Ballysally area. This behavior raised serious concerns about his intentions and the potential risk to the young girl. The secrecy and deception involved in his actions highlighted the ongoing threat he posed to vulnerable individuals in the community.
By November 2011, Quigg’s violations of the court-ordered restrictions came to light. He was remanded in custody after breaching his SOPO by entering into a new relationship with a woman in Coleraine and maintaining contact with her schoolgirl daughter. During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Quigg’s previous convictions were not publicly detailed, but law enforcement officials confirmed that he was required to live in approved accommodation under strict supervision by probation and risk management authorities.
In October of the previous year, Quigg had been placed on a three-year probation period after pleading guilty to two counts of breaching his SOPO. The court heard that he had attempted to read a girl’s palm after promising to give her twenty pounds, an act that demonstrated his continued predatory behavior. Additionally, he had tried to kiss the frightened mother of the teenage girl, an act that caused her to panic and contact the police immediately. These incidents underscored the ongoing danger Quigg represented and the need for strict monitoring.
Earlier in his criminal history, Quigg faced more serious charges. In January 2002, he appeared before Londonderry Magistrates Court on charges of kidnapping and attempted rape. The charges also included false imprisonment and indecent assault. At that time, Quigg was identified as a 32-year-old resident of Priory Road, Dungiven, and was unemployed. His previous convictions and allegations painted a picture of a man with a long history of disturbing and dangerous behavior, which continued to pose a threat to the community in Belfast, Coleraine, and Dungiven.
