GABRIEL PHILIP CHIRWA SENTENCED IN AMESBURY FOR NEARLY 20 YEARS OVER CHILD SEX OFFENCES

A man identified as Gabriel Philip Chirwa has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences involving a young girl. The 38-year-old resident of Holders Road, Amesbury, was sentenced to serve 18 years behind bars, with an additional four years on extended licence, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.

The offences came to light in August 2022 when the young victim confided in her mother about the abuse she had endured. It was revealed that the abuse had taken place over a span of two years, highlighting a prolonged period of harm inflicted upon the girl. The details of the case prompted a thorough investigation by Wiltshire Police, leading to Chirwa’s arrest and subsequent charges.

Following the investigation, Chirwa faced multiple counts, including four counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault by penetration, and one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The severity and number of charges underscore the disturbing nature of the offences committed.

In the aftermath of the sentencing, Detective Constable Fiona Rawlings, a member of Wiltshire Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Team, spoke publicly about the case. She described Chirwa as an “incredibly dangerous offender” who had shown no remorse for his actions, despite the heinous abuse inflicted on a vulnerable young girl. Rawlings also commended the victim for her bravery in coming forward, acknowledging the emotional toll that the investigation and court proceedings had taken on her.

The victim’s personal statement was read out, revealing her feelings of shame and self-disgust. She expressed her confusion and pain, asking, “why me?” She also addressed Chirwa directly, stating, “You [Chirwa] never cared. I hope you will care when I am free to live the life that you can't.”

Following his conviction, Chirwa was ordered to be subject to a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in place indefinitely. This order prohibits him from having any contact with the victim and restricts any unsupervised contact with individuals under the age of 16, aiming to prevent any further harm or risk to children in the future.
