FAYJUL HAQUE, THE BURNLEY SEX OFFENDER, ON THE RUN AND MOCKING POLICE

In a disturbing series of events that unfolded in Burnley, a known sex offender, Fayjul Haque, also referred to as Foyzul Hoque, has been brought back into the spotlight for his reckless behavior and blatant defiance of court orders.

The incident dates back to July 2019, when Haque, aged 25, was involved in a serious sexual assault at a house party involving a 16-year-old girl.

Following his guilty plea, he was sentenced to three years in prison in 2014 for that assault.

His criminal history also includes an earlier conviction from 2009, when he was placed on the sex offenders register after attacking a prostitute who refused to accept a cheque as payment.

Haque’s legal obligations as a registered sex offender were clear and strict.

He was required to notify authorities of any change of address within three days or provide weekly updates if he was homeless.

Additionally, he was mandated to inform the police about any new passports, including details such as the name and number.

Despite these legal requirements, Haque’s conduct demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law.

On February 10, police officers visited his family home on Fifth Avenue, Burnley, to conduct a compliance check.

They discovered that Haque had not been residing at the address since the previous October.

According to prosecutor Rachel Woods, “There had been problems with his behaviour and he was no longer welcome.

He had left the address taking all his belongings.

He would only return from time to time to access any mail.” Following this, law enforcement officials intensified their efforts to locate him.

They searched for Haque at Angle Street, Burnley, and when an officer sent him a text message instructing him to contact the police, Haque responded with defiance, saying, “You play your game and I’ll play mine.

You’ll never find me.

I earn more money than you.” When informed that an appeal to locate him would be issued publicly, he responded with an expletive, further demonstrating his contempt for the authorities.

Haque’s attempts to evade capture culminated on February 26, when he was tracked to a residence on Devonshire Road, Burnley.

As police surrounded the property, Haque initially tried to escape by climbing out of a rear window and over a garden fence.

However, once officers made it clear that he was surrounded, he surrendered peacefully.

During a search of his person, police found a passport in his pocket, which he had obtained on January 8 but failed to notify the authorities about, in breach of his legal obligations.

Haque was charged and pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching his notification requirements.

The court, presided over by Judge Nicholas Barker, sentenced him to an additional 12 months in prison for these violations.

Looking back at his criminal history, it is evident that Haque has been involved in multiple serious offenses.

In October 2014, he was convicted of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl at a party in Burnley.

The incident involved him picking up the girl, who had been drinking, from a local takeaway.

He then took her to a house in Burnley, where she decided to sleep upstairs.

She awoke to find Haque behind her, pulling at her clothes, and struggled to fight him off.

The victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, provided a detailed impact statement, highlighting the profound effect the assault had on her.

At that time, officers described Haque as a ‘high risk’ offender and expressed concern over his dangerous nature.

Det Const Lee Eckersley from the public protection unit emphasized the importance of his incarceration, stating, “It is a good job Haque is behind bars.

He is a dangerous man and without a doubt, a sexual predator.” His repeated offenses and failure to comply with legal orders underscore the ongoing threat he poses to the community in Burnley and beyond.
