FORD DIXON SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN PLYMOUTH
A man from Newton Abbot has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences that took place in Plymouth. Ford Dixon, aged 35, appeared before Plymouth Crown Court on Friday, January 10, where he received his sentence following a trial held in October 2024. The court found him guilty of three counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, and one count of sexual assault by penetration. In addition to his prison term, Dixon was classified as a significant danger to the public. As a result, the court imposed an extended four-year licence period, meaning he will be under supervision for an extended time after his release. Furthermore, he was subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and two indefinite restraining orders, which serve to restrict his contact with the victims and prevent further offences. Dixon will also remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and public safety measures.
The offences for which Dixon was convicted involved two separate women, both of whom he met online. These women were not known to each other, and the incidents occurred in August and October of 2020. The first incident came to police attention when a member of the public reported that a woman had been attacked and was locked out of her residence. When officers arrived at the scene, the woman disclosed that she had been raped and assaulted by Dixon. He was located nearby and promptly arrested. The woman sustained physical injuries from the assault.
The second incident was reported in October 2020, when another member of the public contacted authorities after witnessing a woman being raped at her home. Police responded swiftly, removing the woman from the address. She revealed that Dixon had raped and sexually assaulted her the previous evening and that he was still present in the residence. Officers entered the property and found Dixon in bed, leading to his arrest.
During police interviews, Dixon claimed that the sexual encounters with both women were consensual. However, a thorough investigation by the Sexual Offences Investigation Team led to his being charged in 2023. After a seven-day trial, Dixon was convicted and subsequently remanded into custody pending sentencing.
Detective Constable Andrea Dominik, who led the investigation, expressed her views on the case: ‘Dixon took the opportunity to commit these serious sexual offences on two vulnerable women after meeting them through social media and dating websites. He persisted in visiting their homes, showing a complete disregard for their needs, feelings, or consent. His actions were driven solely by his desire for extreme sexual gratification. He demonstrated himself to be a sexual predator and has shown no remorse since his arrest.’
She continued, ‘He raped these women in their own homes, causing profound impacts on their lives, health, and relationships—effects that will likely persist for the rest of their lives. Both victims displayed remarkable bravery and dedication throughout the investigation and court proceedings. Their willingness to give evidence during the trial underscores their strength. I hope that the sentencing provides some closure for them. Their voices have been heard, and this case affirms that victims will be believed and justice will be served.’
DC Dominik also emphasized the commitment of Devon and Cornwall Police to combat violence against women and girls. She acknowledged that the criminal justice process can be challenging for victims but reassured that support measures are in place to assist them throughout their journey. Her message aims to encourage others to come forward and seek help, knowing they will be supported and their cases taken seriously.
