FERNAZ FARABI'S BRUTAL CRIMES IN COVENTRY LEAD TO 19-YEAR SENTENCE

A man named Fernaz Farabi has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after a series of heinous attacks on a woman in Coventry, leaving her with severe injuries, scars, and lasting trauma. The disturbing case came to light after concerned colleagues at her workplace raised alarms about her facial injuries in March of this year. This prompted an investigation by the Public Protection Unit, which uncovered a pattern of brutal abuse spanning nearly 18 months.

During this period, the victim endured a horrifying sequence of assaults. Farabi reportedly struck her with a hammer, subjected her to sexual assault, and held a knife against her throat in a display of extreme violence. In addition, he poured boiling water over her body, inflicting burns and further injuries. The physical trauma was compounded by multiple lacerations and fractures, including a broken hand and ankle, as well as a fractured nose, all at various stages of the abuse.

Initially, Farabi denied any involvement in these crimes, attempting to dismiss the allegations. However, during a trial at Warwick Crown Court earlier this year, he ultimately pleaded guilty to charges of rape and wounding. The court proceedings revealed the extent of the suffering inflicted upon the victim, who is now in the process of rebuilding her life in a safe environment with ongoing support.

On Wednesday, December 11, Farabi, aged 28 and residing on Jasmine Grove in Coventry, was sentenced to 19 years in prison. Following his release, he will be subject to an extended license period of seven years, ensuring continued supervision and restrictions.

Pc Ellis Burbidge, who led the investigation, expressed his condemnation of the crimes, stating, “This was horrific physical and sexual abuse of a vulnerable woman over a sustained period of time. What the woman experienced was horrific. She has sustained extensive and permanent scarring across her body and is continuing to rebuild her life in a safe environment surrounded by support. This was appalling and inexcusable, and Farabi is rightly behind bars for a significant time.”

Authorities reaffirm their commitment to combating domestic abuse through dedicated initiatives. The introduction of the Domestic Abuse Desk, staffed by specially-trained officers, allows victims to have confidential video calls to share their experiences. This approach helps gather crucial evidence to bring offenders to justice and provides victims with access to charities and independent support services, ensuring they are not alone in their recovery process.
