FEMI ROTINI FROM BLACKBURN SENTENCED FOR MULTIPLE SEX OFFENCES IN HISTORICAL CASES
In a case that has spanned several years and involved multiple victims, Femi Rotini, a 68-year-old man from Blackburn, has been sentenced to an extended term in prison after being found guilty of numerous historical sexual offences.Rotini's criminal history includes a previous conviction from 2015, when he was sentenced to 22 years in prison for sexual offences committed against two young girls. His initial conviction was based on evidence presented at Preston Crown Court, where he was found guilty of 17 counts of rape and sexual assault. The judge at that time, Judge Graham Knowles, described Rotini as “a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” highlighting the predatory nature of his actions and the profound impact on his victims, who were left feeling depressed and suicidal.
Following his 2015 sentencing, Rotini was serving his term at HMP Garth. However, the story did not end there. The publicity surrounding his initial conviction prompted a new victim to come forward, revealing that Rotini had also abused her in the Blackburn area between 1980 and 1983. This revelation led to his re-arrest and subsequent trial for additional offences.
During the recent hearing at Preston Crown Court, Rotini faced charges related to six attempted rape offences and three counts of indecent assault on a child aged between 13 and 15. He maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty throughout the proceedings. Nevertheless, after a three-day trial last month, the jury found him guilty of all charges.
As a result of these convictions, the court extended his sentence by an additional seven years. Consequently, Rotini’s total time behind bars now amounts to 29 years, reflecting the severity and number of the offences committed over the years. The judge emphasized the gravity of his crimes and the betrayal of trust involved, especially considering his previous history and the vulnerability of his victims.
Rotini’s case has garnered significant attention in Blackburn and beyond, highlighting the importance of vigilance and the ongoing efforts to bring offenders to justice, even years after their crimes. His sentencing marks a significant step in addressing the long-standing harm caused by his actions and serves as a reminder of the persistent threat posed by sexual offenders in the community.
