FECRI KONU PERTH DOMESTIC ABUSE WARNING AFTER THREATS TO SCOTTISH WIFE

Fecri Konu, a 35-year-old Turkish man residing on Alexandra Street in Perth, has been subjected to a court order following a series of disturbing incidents involving his Scottish wife.

Despite having previously undergone a course aimed at improving his behavior towards Scottish women, Konu continued to exhibit aggressive and threatening conduct towards his spouse, prompting further legal action.

In a recent court appearance at Perth Sheriff Court, Konu admitted to persistently harassing his wife, which included making threats of violence and creating an environment of fear and distress at their residence.

The court was informed that on October 6, at an address in Perth, Konu threatened his wife and a friend, leaving them in a state of alarm.

The incident was recorded when a friend of the wife captured a phone call in which Konu, unaware of being recorded, threatened to slit his wife’s throat after she accused him of infidelity.

During the police investigation, officers found the wife in a visibly anxious and frightened state.

According to the prosecution, the wife had previously ejected Konu from their home after a heated argument.

She had packed his belongings and placed them outside in the garden, informing him via text message that their marriage was over.

Despite this, Konu returned to the residence, banging on the door and shouting threats such as, “I’m going to f**k you up.

I’m going to make your life hell.

You wait and see what I’m going to do.” Defense solicitor Billy Somerville acknowledged that Konu might not fully grasp the impact of his actions, suggesting a lack of understanding regarding the severity of his behavior.

The court heard that Konu’s history with the legal system includes a 2012 incident where he was ordered to undergo social work supervision after pulling a knife on his wife during a dispute over cultural differences.

At that time, Konu confronted his wife when she was too busy working to join him for breakfast, which led to the knife incident.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis noted that while the incident was not a typical domestic assault, it was rooted in cultural misunderstandings, and recommended supervision to help Konu understand UK norms of behavior.

In addition to the recent threats, Konu has a history of disruptive behavior, including breaching the peace by shouting and swearing at a Perth business.

He narrowly avoided jail in 2019 after admitting to subjecting his wife to another episode of abuse, which resulted in a court order for him to complete 150 hours of unpaid community service.

Most recently, the court has mandated that Konu stay away from his wife for the next two years.

He is also required to undertake 200 hours of unpaid community work and attend a specialized domestic abuse program known as the Caledonian Men’s programme.

The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of his actions and the ongoing concern for the safety and well-being of his wife, emphasizing the need for continued intervention and monitoring to prevent further incidents.
