After an investigation by Thames Valley Police, a man has been sentenced to prison for the sexual assault and rape of a woman in Berkshire.
Farai Maumbe, 43 years old, residing on Nightingale Avenue in Chertsey, was found guilty by a unanimous jury of two counts of sexual assault by penetration, along with single counts of rape, intentional strangulation, and sexual assault.
These convictions followed a five-day trial held at Reading Crown Court, which concluded on December 12 of the previous year.
Maumbe was brought back to the same court on Friday, February 13, where he received an eight-year custodial sentence.
The incident in question took place on May 20, 2023, when Maumbe visited the victim’s residence and subjected her to sexual assault.
Despite the victim’s pleas for him to stop and her efforts to resist, Maumbe persisted with the assault, which included rape and strangulation.
The day after the assault, upon confronting Maumbe, the victim was told by him that “no means yes to me.” Maumbe was taken into custody on May 22, 2023, and was formally charged on December 21 of the same year.
