BLACKBURN TEACHER FAHIM MIRZA JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE
A paedophile teacher named Fahim Ali Beg Mirza, aged 61, of Johnston Street, Blackburn, who had previously lived in Princess Street, Accrington, was convicted in 1999 of five counts of indecent assault on young girls.Mirza, a teacher since 1974, engaged in a wrongful relationship with two sisters aged 12 and 13 in a family he was acquainted with while he was working as a local authority teacher.
During the period of his abuse, the relationship persisted even after the girls were placed in local authority care.
Magistrates previously heard that Mirza would take the girls out in his car, sometimes for overnight stays at hostels in Lancashire, and he also bought them clothes.
Over three years, he continuously abused the girls through indecent acts.
Mirza was released from prison in October 1999 after serving much of a three-year sentence on remand.
Recently, he was brought back to court after officers visited his home, spotted a maths book in his car, and suspected he might resume teaching.
The court has placed Mirza on the sex offender register indefinitely and warned that he could face up to five years in prison if he breaches a sex offender order.
The order restricts Mirza from contacting persons under 16 without approval, allowing minors into his residence, or undertaking activities that put him repeatedly in contact with under-16s.
The judge, district judge Paul Firth, emphasized the public's right to information, stating there was an 'overriding public interest' in identifying him, and that nondisclosure would be against public good.
The court believes full responsible reporting supports justice and community safety.
