Ewen McIntosh

Gourock Sexual Abuser

June 2019 ‘Monster’ pervert who wore police uniform while raping schoolgirl caged A former special constable who wore his uniform while raping a 13-year-old girl has been jailed for nine years. Evil Ewen McIntosh, who abused two children over a five-year period, hid his crimes behind a cloak of respectability, serving as a volunteer police officer and acting as a Boys’ Brigade leader. After he was sentenced yesterday, one of his victims told how she only found the courage to report the predator three decades later – after seeing an episode of Crimewatch. In an exclusive interview with the Record, the victim, who we have chosen not to identify, said: “He was a pillar of the community, someone who everyone liked and respected. “He destroyed my life and convinced me that nobody would believe me if I told on him. “He thought he was untouchable. I’m just glad that I found the courage to speak out. “I was watching Crimewatch and realised the damage people like him inflict, and found the courage to go to the police. “I just couldn’t live with what he had done to me any longer and I was worried sick that he’d do the same thing to another child. “I’m just glad justice has finally been done. “I wasn’t able to save myself but I managed to play a part in stopping him from hurting anyone else.” McIntosh, 56, of Gourock, Renfrewshire, targeted his first victim from 1983, when she was aged 13. The crimes were committed at Parklea playing fields and a car park in Greenock Road, both in Port Glasgow, and on the Esplanade in Greenock. During one attack, he forced the girl to perform a sex act on him. He grabbed her head and put pressure on the girl’s neck until she lost consciousness. He also touched her breasts and private parts. His second victim was also 13 when the abuse against her started in 1985. The attacks continued for three years. McIntosh repeatedly touched her leg and carried out a sex act at an address in Greenock and during a car journey between Gourock and Ayrshire. He also raped the girl in a vehicle and at a house in Greenock. During the second rape, sick McIntosh made the girl wear a bra that he provided. The exact details of the brutal attacks are too graphic to publish. The second victim, now 47, said: “He was someone I thought I could trust. “He was a special constable and he also taught judo in the local community. “He was someone I never thought could be capable of doing something so evil. “The first time he attacked me was in the back of his car. He was driving me to a judo class when he pulled over and raped me. “I was terrified and too scared to tell anyone. He warned me to keep my mouth shut and said nobody would ever believe me. “I was just a young girl and he told me I’d lose my entire family. “The second time he raped me was at his house. “He had just come home from work and he kept his police uniform on. “I begged him to stop but he just carried on. He knew exactly what he was doing and took pleasure in the pain he inflicted. “He’s a monster who destroyed my life.” McIntosh was convicted of twice raping the girl, as well as the sexual abuse of the second girl in the 80s. At the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday, defence counsel Jennifer Bain said her client, who was convicted by a jury, still refused to accept his guilt. She said: “He does understand the significant impact crimes of this type have. “Albeit he maintains his denial, he accepts he has been found guilty of terrible and serious crimes.” Sentencing McIntosh, judge Lord Kinclaven told the predator he was guilty of offences that have had a “significant impact” on his victims. McIntosh was also placed on the sex offenders’ register. His second victim told us: “He took everything away from me. I lost all my trust in men and I spent years keeping this a secret. “I reached a point where I couldn’t keep it to myself any more.” The woman said McIntosh’s depraved crimes caused both of her marriages to break down. She said: “I couldn’t let a man come near me and it caused both my marriages to fall apart. “It took a lot of courage to speak out and I was determined to face him in court. It was the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do but I wanted him to face justice and hear how he tore my life apart. “He’s never shown any remorse for what he did. He preyed on two wee lassies and wrecked our lives. “He thought he was the perfect person and never thought he’d face justice. “It’s taken over three decades but now I finally feel I have some closure. “I’m glad he’s been put away for so long. I can at last rest easy at night, knowing that he’s locked up.
