EWEN BLAIR FROM BELFAST JAILED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT IN LIVERPOOL

A man identified as Ewen Blair has been sentenced to prison today, Wednesday 5 February, following his conviction for the heinous crimes of rape and sexual assault committed against two women in Liverpool. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the ongoing issue of violence against women in the region.

Blair, aged 21 and residing on Brownlow Hill in Liverpool city centre, appeared before Liverpool Crown Court to face justice. The court heard that he was found guilty by a jury last month of seven separate offences, which included three counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, as well as assault by penetration and oral rape. The severity of these charges underscores the brutal nature of his crimes.

The court proceedings revealed that Blair, who originally hails from Belfast in Northern Ireland, targeted two women in their twenties within a span of just a few days in September 2023. According to the evidence presented, Blair had initially befriended these women in Liverpool city centre, only to later commit these disturbing acts of sexual violence against them. Both victims are currently receiving support from specially trained officers, emphasizing the trauma they have endured and the ongoing need for victim assistance.

Detective Sergeant Bob Sandham expressed his condemnation of Blair’s actions, describing his behavior as “predatory” and “deplorable.” He emphasized the emotional toll on the victims, stating that Blair’s actions forced them to relive their trauma through the lengthy legal process. Sergeant Sandham acknowledged the complexity and duration of the investigation, which underscores the dedication of law enforcement in bringing Blair to justice.

In sentencing, the judge extended Blair’s imprisonment from an initial eight years to a total of ten years, categorizing him as a dangerous offender. Additionally, Blair was placed on the Sexual Offenders Register for life and was subjected to a lifelong restraining order to prevent any future contact with his victims. While no amount of punishment can undo the harm inflicted, the conviction aims to provide some measure of justice for the women affected by his actions.

Sergeant Sandham concluded his statement by praising the dignity and resilience shown by the victims throughout the investigation. He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to combating violence against women and girls, asserting that such acts will not be tolerated and that authorities will continue to work tirelessly to ensure perpetrators are held accountable.
