EWAN BLAIR FROM BELFAST AND LIVERPOOL SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT IN LIVERPOOL CITY CENTRE

A man originally from Belfast, Ewan Blair, has been convicted and sentenced for committing heinous acts of sexual violence against two women in Liverpool city centre. The disturbing series of events unfolded over a span of just a few days, leaving a trail of trauma and devastation for the victims involved.

Blair, aged 21 and residing on Brownlow Hill in Liverpool city centre, appeared before Liverpool Crown Court to face the charges. The court proceedings culminated in a sentencing that saw Blair receive an eight-year prison term, which was subsequently extended to ten years due to his classification as a dangerous offender. In addition to his prison sentence, Blair was ordered to be placed on the sexual offender notification register for life, a measure intended to monitor his activities and prevent further harm. A lifelong restraining order was also issued to protect the victims from any future contact with him.

The jury at Liverpool Crown Court found Blair guilty last month of seven separate offences. These included three counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, as well as assault by penetration and oral rape. Notably, all these offences were committed against a single victim, highlighting the severity and brutality of his actions.

The court was informed that Blair’s assaults occurred in September 2023, shortly after he had befriended two women in their twenties in Liverpool city centre. Over the course of a few days, he subjected both women to sexual assaults, leaving them traumatized and in need of support. Both victims are currently receiving assistance from specially trained officers, emphasizing the serious and ongoing impact of Blair’s crimes.

Detective Sergeant Bob Sandham expressed his condemnation of Blair’s actions, describing his behaviour as “deplorable” and emphasizing the trauma inflicted upon the victims. He acknowledged the lengthy and complex nature of the investigation, which ultimately led to Blair’s conviction. Sergeant Sandham also praised the resilience and dignity shown by the victims throughout the legal process, stating that their strength has been instrumental in achieving justice.

He further reaffirmed the commitment of law enforcement to combat violence against women and girls, asserting that such acts will not be tolerated. The conviction of Ewan Blair serves as a stark reminder of the importance of holding perpetrators accountable and ensuring that justice is served for victims of sexual violence in Liverpool, Belfast, and beyond.
