EVARISTUS AKERELE AND SHUAIB IBOKO-AKOH SENTENCED IN LIVERPOOL RAPE CASE

On Thursday, February 6th, two men were formally sentenced to prison for their involvement in a serious sexual assault that took place in Liverpool city centre. The incident in question occurred during the early hours of April 20, 2024, when a woman was subjected to rape inside a property located within the bustling heart of Liverpool.

Following the distressing report from the victim, law enforcement officers responded swiftly. Within hours, they managed to pinpoint the exact location of the offence and made immediate arrests of the two suspects involved. The police investigation did not end there; during the suspects' bail period, authorities conducted a thorough search of their mobile phones. This digital forensics effort uncovered intimate videos of the woman, which appeared to have been recorded without her consent or knowledge. These incriminating videos were found on the devices of both men, adding a disturbing dimension to the case.

Both Evaristus Akerele, aged 25 and originally from Luton, and Shuaib Iboko-Akoh, aged 24 and formerly residing on Harrington Street in Liverpool, denied the allegations throughout the legal proceedings. However, after a trial held in January, the court found both men guilty of the charges of rape and voyeurism. The verdict was delivered at Liverpool Crown Court, where the severity of their crimes was acknowledged.

Today, the court handed down a combined sentence of seven years in prison to both men. Additionally, they were ordered to register as sex offenders for the remainder of their lives, a measure intended to protect the community and prevent future offences.
