ERKAN KARADOGAN'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN CARDIFF: A PREDATOR'S REIGN OF TERROR AGAINST CHILDREN AND ADULTS
A deeply disturbing case has come to light involving Erkan Karadogan, a 52-year-old man from Cardiff, whose heinous actions have left a trail of trauma and suffering.The allegations against him include a series of sexual offenses spanning many years, beginning with the most vulnerable victim, a young girl who was only three years old at the time of the initial assault.
According to court records, Karadogan attempted to sexually assault this young girl when she was just three years old.
The abuse did not end there; as she grew older, he continued to sexually violate her, causing lasting psychological scars.
The victim, now an adult, bravely provided a personal statement during the sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, describing the profound impact of the abuse on her life.
She explained that she has struggled with feelings of anger, difficulty concentrating, and emotional numbness since the trial.
She revealed that she often zones out during conversations, feels exhausted, and has been battling sleep issues and nightmares involving the defendant.
Her statement detailed her ongoing mental health struggles, including depression, anxiety, and suicidal tendencies during her childhood.
She also shared that her trauma has affected her relationships and her ability to trust others, leading to a pattern of unhealthy romantic relationships where she felt used and betrayed.
In addition to her account, a second victim, also a young girl, recounted how the abuse had a lasting impact on her mental health.
She described feelings of fear and nervousness that persisted as she grew older.
The investigation and trial process brought back traumatic memories, making her hesitant to be intimate with her partner.
She disclosed that she now relies on medication daily to manage anxiety and depression, and that the ordeal has significantly disrupted her life.
Both victims expressed a desire for justice and closure, emphasizing the deep scars left by Karadogan’s actions.
During the court proceedings, the court heard that Karadogan, who resides on Poplar Road in the Fairwater area of Cardiff, had a prior minor conviction of a different nature but was otherwise considered to have been of good character before these allegations surfaced.
The court was informed that he also sexually abused an elderly woman and another young girl, further demonstrating a pattern of predatory behavior.
In mitigation, Clare Wilks, representing Karadogan, highlighted that he is a Turkish national with family residing in Turkey.
This meant he would not have the same access to family visits as other inmates, and he has a partner living in Turkey.
Despite these factors, Judge Simon Mills did not find them sufficient to mitigate the severity of his crimes.
The judge described Karadogan as a “frightening sexual predator” and a “selfish, abusive bully,” emphasizing the gravity of his offenses.
Judge Mills made it clear that Karadogan had shown no remorse for his actions.
As a result, he was sentenced to a total of 24 years in prison, with the understanding that he will serve two-thirds of that sentence behind bars.
Additionally, Karadogan was placed under an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, ensuring ongoing restrictions to protect the public from further harm.
