ERIC MOORE FROM BELFAST SENTENCED FOR CRUELTY TO DOG ON SALISBURY STREET

On the 3rd of June, 2025, Belfast Magistrates Court delivered a stern verdict against Eric Moore, a resident of Hartington Court in Belfast, following his conviction for inflicting unnecessary suffering upon a dog. The incident in question occurred on the 16th of July, 2024, and involved a Bully-type dog that was subjected to severe mistreatment.

According to reports, Belfast City Council initiated prosecution proceedings after receiving multiple complaints from concerned residents. These complaints detailed disturbing acts of animal cruelty committed by Mr. Moore, including kicking, punching, slapping, and grabbing the dog. The alleged abuse took place at Hartington Court, located on Salisbury Street in Belfast, raising alarm among the local community about the welfare of animals in the area.

During the court proceedings, Mr. Moore was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to the animal, a violation under section 4 of The Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 2011. The court's judgment reflected the seriousness of the offense, emphasizing the importance of animal protection laws and the need to hold offenders accountable.

As part of his sentence, Mr. Moore was sentenced to five months in custody, though this term was suspended for a period of 12 months. Additionally, he was ordered to pay costs amounting to £246, covering legal expenses and court fees. The court also imposed a significant restriction on Mr. Moore’s ability to own animals, disqualifying him from possessing any animals for a period of five years, a measure aimed at preventing future incidents of cruelty.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts by local authorities and animal welfare organizations in Belfast to combat animal cruelty and ensure that offenders are appropriately penalized. The community’s vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement continue to be vital in safeguarding vulnerable animals from abuse and neglect.
