2013: CRADLEY HEATH WIFE BEATER JAILED
A domestic assault case resulted in a man from Cradley Heath receiving a prison sentence following a severe attack on his wife.Edward Round struck Kerri, causing her to sustain bruises and injuries that required hospital care for cuts, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.
The 28-year-old, who had prior convictions related to violence against her, was sentenced to one year behind bars.
Judge Nicholas Webb detailed how Round had seized his wife by her hair and forcibly dragged her to the ground, where he kicked her multiple times in the stomach and head.
The judge remarked that she was subjected to a vicious beating, and additionally issued a restraining order prohibiting Round from contacting his wife.
Round, residing at The Crescent, Haden Hill, pleaded guilty to a charge of causing actual bodily harm through assault, and also admitted to resisting arrest.
He also acknowledged violations of a community order from May this year, which included a previous battery against his wife and theft of items such as her mobile phone.
The judge stated, “You have been engaging in criminal acts against her over some time, and some of these acts were particularly disturbing.” The prosecution, led by Geoffrey Dann, explained that the assault followed an evening of drinking.
Defense lawyer Jas Mann noted that their relationship had broken down beyond repair and that Round accepted his misconduct.
