EDISON NORTHOVER JAILED FOR RAPE IN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE AND CORBY

A 25-year-old man named Edison Northover has been sentenced to over eight years in prison after committing a heinous sexual assault in Northamptonshire. The incident, which took place in the early hours of January 18, involved Northover filming himself raping an unconscious woman, a crime that has left a lasting impact on the victim and the community alike.

At the time of the offense, Northover was residing in Corby, Northamptonshire. The woman involved was unaware of what had transpired until her younger sibling showed her the disturbing video footage. Shocked and distressed by what she saw, she promptly reported the incident to the police, initiating a thorough investigation.

Following his arrest, Northover was formally charged with the crime of rape. During his time in custody, he made contact with the victim in an attempt to dissuade her from supporting the case against him. This behavior led to additional charges of perverting the course of justice, reflecting his efforts to obstruct the legal process.

In July, a trial was held at Northampton Crown Court where Northover faced the charges. The court found him guilty of both rape and perverting the course of justice. The verdict was a significant step in delivering justice for the victim and holding Northover accountable for his actions.

Last week, the court sentenced Northover to a term of eight years and three months in prison. The sentence underscores the severity of his crimes and the commitment of the justice system to protect victims of sexual violence.

Detective Constable Tina Twiselton, a lead investigator from Northamptonshire Police's SOLAR Team, expressed her support for the survivor and emphasized the importance of her bravery. She stated, 'This has been an incredibly traumatic experience for the survivor and I am so proud of her for her bravery in attending court, in supporting our investigation, and in ensuring the man who did this to her has been convicted and jailed.'

She further added, 'I know this wasn't easy by any means and it is a testament to the courage she has that she found the strength to be able to do this. I hope the conclusion of this case provides her with some closure and an ability to move forward onto better and brighter things.'

Detective Twiselton also reaffirmed Northamptonshire Police's commitment to combating violence against women and girls. She stated, 'Tackling violence against women and girls is a priority for Northamptonshire Police and every survivor of rape or sexual assault deserves to feel heard, believed and supported. We are very passionate about this in the SOLAR Team and will continue working hard to help more people like this woman put their Edison Northover behind bars.'
