EBRAHIM KAZI SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR ABUSE IN SWINDON

In November 2011, Ebrahim Yusuf Kazi, a 67-year-old man from Regent Street, Gloucester, was sentenced to prison for abusing three girls under the age of 13 during his time as an imam at a Swindon mosque.

He was convicted of five counts of indecent assault related to incidents that occurred between 1979 and 1985 at the Broad Street mosque in Swindon town centre.

Swindon Crown Court sentenced Kazi to two years in prison. Judge Euan Ambrose explained that this was the appropriate tariff for offenses committed during that period, although he noted that under current guidelines, a longer sentence might have been imposed.

The judge also mentioned that a letter from Kazi’s doctor was presented to the court, stating that Kazi would likely die if he was sent to prison.
