EASTON ROBINSON SENTENCED FOR BABY'S DEATH IN NOTTINGHAM

In November 2016, a tragic case unfolded in Nottingham involving the death of a nine-week-old infant, Eden Robinson, whose body was discovered in the bedroom of his father, Easton Robinson, at his flat in Nottingham on the 8th of November, 2014.

Robinson, residing on Wasnidge Walk in St Ann's, was brought to court to face charges related to his son’s death.

The Nottingham Crown Court heard harrowing details about Eden’s injuries, which included a total of 23 separate wounds, notably brain damage.

Despite the evidence, Robinson maintained that the injuries resulted from a fit that the child had suffered.

However, the court found that the injuries were consistent with deliberate abuse rather than an accidental incident.

During the trial, it was revealed that paramedics had been called to Robinson’s flat after Eden was found unresponsive.

Emergency services managed to restart Eden’s heart at the scene, but upon arrival at the hospital, doctors determined that his injuries were too severe to save him.

His life support was subsequently switched off three days later, marking a tragic end to the young child's brief life.

A post-mortem examination confirmed that Eden’s death was caused by a head injury that had been intentionally inflicted.

The investigation uncovered evidence suggesting that the fatal assault was part of a broader pattern of ongoing abuse.

It was revealed that Eden had sustained multiple broken bones in the weeks leading up to his death, indicating a sustained period of violence.

Medical experts identified bleeding on Eden’s brain consistent with a traumatic head injury, which was attributed to shaking—a form of abuse often associated with violent handling of infants.

The findings pointed to a deliberate act of violence rather than an accident.

Clare Mellors, Eden’s mother, provided a victim impact statement in which she described witnessing her son “pass away” in her arms.

She expressed her feelings of betrayal, stating she felt “physically sick” after realizing she had been deceived by Robinson.

Mellors also voiced her hatred for Robinson, blaming him for taking her baby’s life.

In her sentencing remarks, Mrs Justice Cox condemned Robinson’s actions, stating: “Eden was deliberately and violently shaken by you in anger.

There was, in this case, a gross breach of trust, as the baby was totally dependent on you.

You have denied any involvement in Eden’s death from the very beginning.

There is only one person responsible for Eden’s death, and that is you.” Detective Chief Inspector Hayley Williams from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit described Eden’s death as a “tragedy.” She emphasized the severity of the injuries, noting that some of the evidence indicated the force used was comparable only to severe accidents such as car crashes, falls from significant heights, or crush injuries, underscoring the brutality of the assault.

Following the evidence and the court’s findings, Easton Robinson was sentenced to 12 years in prison for manslaughter, a conviction that reflects the gravity of his actions and the devastating impact on Eden’s family and the Nottingham community.
