BARRY MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULT AND DOMESTIC ABUSE MANIPULATION
A man named Dylan Selby, aged 27, assaulted his former girlfriend by punching her in the face at his mother's residence in Barry during the early hours of March 16 following an argument.
The incident resulted in the victim suffering significant bruising, swelling, and bleeding.
After the assault, Selby expressed panic and attempted to manipulate her by suggesting she tell the police she was the initial perpetrator.
He messaged her saying, "You better beg the police to drop it, get on to them and don't stop ringing them when I get locked up tomorrow." Selby also told her to tell the police she assaulted him first, and called her an "idiot." Prior to his arrest, Selby sent messages implying he would be in custody shortly and pressured her to have a restraining order removed to facilitate future visits.
He was arrested on March 17, and his phone revealed messages between him and the victim.
During the sentencing at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that he had previous convictions for battery, assaulting emergency workers, affray, and violent offences against the same victim.
Selby pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and witness intimidation and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.
The court also imposed a three-year restraining order against him.
