Mathews was first detained in 2024 after an allegation that he committed online sexual offenses against a girl under the age of 16.
He targeted her via Snapchat and WhatsApp messaging platforms.

Matthews confessed to several offenses, including causing a child to engage in sexual activity, threatening to reveal private sexual images, engaging in sexual acts with a child, inciting such acts, engaging in sexual communication with a child, and producing indecent images of children under two different classifications Class B and Class C.
He also pleaded guilty to malicious communications.
He was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on June 12, and as part of his sentence, he will be subject to lifelong notification requirements as a sex offender.
