RUSHDEN MAN DUNCAN BURSON SENTENCED FOR HISTORIC CHILD SEX ABUSE IN OXFORD

In a case that has spanned several decades, Duncan Lee Burson, a resident of Rushden, was sentenced to prison for his involvement in the sexual abuse of a young girl.

The offences, which occurred in Oxford between November 1991 and November 1993, involved a girl who was under the age of 14 at the time.

Burson, aged 43 and residing on Moor Road in Rushden, was convicted of multiple sex offences related to this case.

The trial took place at Oxford Crown Court, where he was found guilty of one count of indecent assault and one count of indecency with or towards a child.

These convictions confirmed his involvement in the abuse of the young girl during the early 1990s.

However, Burson was acquitted of a more serious charge of rape during a separate trial held at Reading Crown Court on June 15, 2018.

Despite this acquittal, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him on the other charges, leading to his sentencing.

As a result of his convictions, Duncan Burson was sentenced to a term of three years and two months in prison at Reading Crown Court.

The court also took additional measures to protect the public, especially children, by placing him on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Furthermore, he was issued an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, which explicitly bans him from working with children in any capacity.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts of the justice system to address historic child abuse cases and ensure that offenders are held accountable, regardless of the time elapsed since the offences occurred.
