DREW THOM PERTH RAPIST RELEASED FROM JAIL AFTER CRIME IN BLAIRGOWRIE
A dangerous individual from Perth, Drew Thom, has been released back into the community after serving time for a serious sexual assault.Thom, aged 22, was convicted of raping a sleeping teenage girl in Blairgowrie in September 2021 and was subsequently sentenced to 42 months in prison.
The court proceedings revealed harrowing details of the assault that took place on September 4, 2023.
According to the court, Thom had climbed onto the sleeping girl, unzipped her top, and forcibly ripped her trousers before penetrating her.
The young victim awoke during the assault, but Thom continued to assault her despite her awakening.
Thom was sentenced on October 2, 2023, at Edinburgh High Court to serve 42 months behind bars.
However, he was released less than a year later, having served only 20 months on remand.
As part of his sentence, Thom was also placed on the sex offender register indefinitely, marking him as a threat to the community.
In a separate incident that occurred while Thom was incarcerated, he was involved in a case of vandalism at Polmont Young Offenders Institution.
During this incident in September 2023, Thom, who is from Dunnock Park, pleaded guilty to deliberately setting a fire that caused damage to cell fixtures and fittings.
The court heard that Thom suffers from ADHD, which may have contributed to his reckless behavior.
The fire resulted in approximately £820 worth of damage.
Despite his release, concerns remain about Thom’s presence in Perth and the potential risk he poses to the public, especially considering the severity of his previous crimes and his placement on the sex offender register.
