DOUGLAS STILLER FROM GEDLING FACES SERIOUS CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES IN NOTTINGHAM
In March 2017, a disturbing case involving a local business owner from Gedling came to light when authorities uncovered a significant collection of illegal images depicting children. The individual, identified as Douglas Stiller, was found to possess a total of 3,379 indecent images of minors, a revelation that has shocked the community and prompted serious legal proceedings.Stiller, a 51-year-old joiner residing on Florence Road in Gedling, was brought before Nottingham magistrates to face charges related to the possession and creation of child sexual abuse material. During the court hearing, his solicitor disclosed that Stiller had publicly come out as gay, a statement made in the context of the ongoing case. The court was informed that Stiller was to be transferred to the crown court for sentencing due to the gravity of the allegations.
Mitigation lawyer Nadir Prabatini explained that the arrest had a profound impact on Stiller, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. He recounted that when police officers arrived at Stiller’s residence, he cooperated fully, making complete and honest admissions at the scene. Mr. Prabatini described Stiller as a business owner who operates a company with three employees, though details about the nature of his business were not specified.
The charges against Stiller include a guilty plea to possessing 619 indecent images of a child classified as Category A, the most severe category, with the images dated between November 22, 2010, and November 26 of the previous year. Additionally, he admitted to possessing 720 images in Category B and a staggering 2,040 images in Category C, all within the same timeframe, spanning from December 31, 2008, to November 30 of the previous year. Furthermore, he was found to have a prohibited image of a child at his home on November 30 last year.
Prosecutor Daniel Pietryka highlighted the seriousness of the case, particularly noting the presence of Category A images, which involve the most severe forms of abuse. He requested that the case be escalated to the crown court for sentencing. The prosecutor also revealed that the images were stored across various files on a peer-to-peer network, indicating file sharing and the possession of videos and pictures involving children aged between five and 14. Some of these images depicted sexual activity, and in some cases, adults were also involved.
Despite the gravity of the charges, Stiller was granted bail but is required to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on April 18. As part of his bail conditions, he is prohibited from having any unsupervised contact with individuals under the age of 18. Magistrate David Clarson addressed the court, stating, “We have had the chance to take a look at the nature and number of the offences. We feel the power of this court is not sufficient to deal with the seriousness of the allegations.” The case continues to develop as the legal process moves forward.
