DOUGLAS PULLEN FROM NOTTINGHAM SENTENCED FOR INDECENT ASSAULT IN LAKES DISTRICT
In a case that has spanned decades, Douglas Brian Edmund Pullen, a 67-year-old former Army serviceman from Nottingham, has been sentenced by a court in Carlisle for the indecent assault of a young girl in the Lake District during the 1980s.The incident took place in the Windermere area, where Pullen admitted to assaulting the girl, who was approximately 11 or 12 years old at the time.
Prosecutor Richard Haworth addressed Judge Barbara Forrester, revealing that the victim had kept her ordeal bottled up for many years before finally coming forward to report the abuse.
The court was informed that the woman had experienced ongoing difficulties throughout her life as a result of the trauma she endured.
Pullen, who has no prior criminal convictions, acknowledged his wrongdoing during the proceedings.
It was also disclosed that he had previously received a caution in 2001 from Ministry of Defence police concerning two separate indecent assault offences involving a different girl.
This prior caution indicated a pattern of concerning behavior, although it did not lead to a criminal conviction at that time.
During the hearing, Judge Forrester noted Pullen’s expressions of remorse and his current circumstances, including his role as a caregiver for a wife suffering from ill health.
Considering these factors, she decided to suspend a 12-month prison sentence for two years, allowing Pullen to avoid immediate incarceration.
As part of his sentence, Pullen, who resides on Newdigate Street in Kimberley, Nottingham, was ordered to complete a sex offender treatment program and a rehabilitation requirement.
Additionally, he is mandated to adhere to a strict sexual harm prevention order and to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to his conduct.
This case highlights the long-lasting impact of childhood abuse and the importance of justice, even when many years have passed since the original incident.
