NEWCASTLE OFFENDER SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR HORRIFIC RAPE AND KIDNAPPING

A man named Douglas Oldham has been sentenced to nine years in prison after committing a brutal sexual assault and kidnapping of a woman in Newcastle. The victim endured a horrific ordeal where Oldham held her prisoner for ten hours, wrapped flex around her neck, threatened to cut off her fingers, and threatened to kill her with a knife. During the attack, Oldham also raped her, threatened to harm her with a boiling kettle, and forced her through a terrifying sequence of violence, including kicking, punching, head-butting, and physically abusing her with a knife and extension flex. The court hearing revealed that Oldham forced the woman to go through two crown court trials, which caused her significant emotional distress. She expressed her ongoing fears, stating, 'He told me he was going to kill me, I thought I would die that night. I didn't think I would ever see my mam again.' The court heard that Oldham's attack was part of a prolonged campaign to terrorize and humiliate her, resulting in physical injuries and lasting psychological trauma. He pleaded guilty to assault, harassment, and rape, and was convicted in December. The judge emphasized the brutality of the attack, stating, 'The rape was the final part of a prolonged course of conduct design to terrify her and humiliate her.'
