July 2013 Probation order for child abuse images dad A pervert caught with over 1000 sick images of children was put on probation for three years. Depraved Douglas Hanning (56), had stored a total of 1086 indecent images of children on personal computers at his house, in Westwood, between January 1, 2008, and June 2, 2010. He pleaded guilty at Hamilton Sheriff Court last month to an amended charge of possession of indecent photos of children. Sentencing at the sheriff court on Monday, Sheriff Joyce Powrie told Hanning – a dad of two – that a probation order was appropriate as most of the images were at the lowest level of indecency and Hanning was a first offender. She ordered Hanning to be placed on probation for three years and put on the sex offenders’ register for three years. He must also take part in a community sex offender groupwork programme. Earlier, the court was told how Hanning was snared when police swooped on his East Kilbride home. His online activity had been detected by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre. Hanning’s IP address was flagged up as having accessed indecent images of children. Police obtained a search warrant and attended at his home in Blenheim Avenue on June 2, 2010. Hanning was cautioned and a search was carried out by officers. A computer in his bedroom was seized which, after forensic examination, was found to contain 105 indecent images of children. Historical search terms indicative of common child abuse searches were also found. A total of 981 indecent images were discovered on another electronic device in Hanning’s bedroom. The majority of the images were at the lowest level of indecency, however there were images at the highest level. June 2013 Pervert downloaded indecent images of children A pervert with a stash of more than 1000 sick images of children was snared when police swooped on his East Kilbride home. Depraved Douglas Hanning (57) had stored a total of 1086 indecent images of children on personal computers at his house in Westwood between January 1, 2008 and June 2, 2010. Fiscal depute Barry Dunn told the court how Hanning’s perverted online activity was detected by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre. Hanning’s IP address was flagged up as having accessed indecent images of children. Police obtained a search warrant and attended at his home in Blenheim Avenue on June 2, 2010. Hanning, who was alone in the property at the time, was cautioned and a search was carried out. A computer in his bedroom was seized which, after forensic examination, was found to contain 105 indecent images of children. Historical search terms indicative of common child abuse searches were also found. They included ‘pigtail heaven’, ‘child models’ ‘school models’ and pre-teen models’. A total of 981 indecent images were discovered on another electronic device in Hanning’s bedroom. The majority of the images were at the lowest level of indecency, however there were images at the highest level. Hanning’s defence lawyer Rhonda Anderson told the court her client acknowleged that this is a serious matter. She said: “The images were not accessible to others and were solely for personal use. “This is something the accused has taken extremely seriously. He is thoroughly ashamed of his behaviour.” Hanning pled guilty to an amended charge of possession of indecent photos of children. Sheriff Joyce Powrie deferred sentence until July 22 for reports including a risk assessment. Hanning was placed on the sex offenders’ register meantime.
