DOMINIC DEWICK JAILED FOR ABUSE IN HAVERFORDWEST: HORRIFIC CRIMES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS REVEALED

In August 2023, a disturbing case involving the abuse of young girls in Haverfordwest culminated in the sentencing of Dominic Dewick, who was convicted of multiple historical offences spanning over two decades. The police released a mugshot of Dewick following his conviction, bringing to light the severity of his crimes and the impact they have had on his victims.

Dominic Dewick, aged 45 and residing on Harrier Road in Haverfordwest, faced a four-day trial during which the jury deliberated thoroughly before reaching a unanimous verdict of guilt on all 20 charges. These charges related to abuse that occurred between 1993 and 2017, involving two young girls who were subjected to his predatory actions over many years.

The court proceedings revealed harrowing details about the victims’ suffering. One girl was just seven years old when Dewick began abusing her, and the abuse continued until she reached the age of 15. The second victim was subjected to Dewick’s misconduct between the ages of nine and twelve. The court heard how these acts of abuse left deep scars on the victims, who have since grown into women, carrying the emotional and psychological burdens of their trauma.

During sentencing, Judge Paul Thomas expressed his profound concern over the lasting effects of Dewick’s actions. He stated, “The impact on the lives of those two girls, now women, has been utterly profound. There is, I’m afraid, little to no mitigation that can be identified on your behalf.”

In terms of punishment, Dewick was sentenced to four years in prison for the abuse of the first victim, and an additional 13 and a half years for the abuse of the second victim. Furthermore, he will serve an extended two-year license period following his release, ensuring ongoing supervision. Dewick had previously denied all charges, claiming that both girls had fabricated their stories. During his trial, he told the jury, “I would never do anything like that. That was sick.”

Prosecutor Nicola Powell highlighted Dewick’s denial and self-convincing attitude, stating, “This is a man in complete denial, who convinced himself that he’d got away with it, all those years ago. But now his past has come back to haunt him.”

As part of his sentence, Dewick was also subjected to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order and is required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. A victim impact statement was read aloud in court, revealing the deep emotional toll inflicted by Dewick’s actions. One victim expressed her feelings, saying, “I feel absolutely broken. A broken person inside and out. I was a child and very vulnerable when I was abused.”
