DIRK EDGE FROM GRIMSBY AND LEEDS CAUGHT WITH 12,000 CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities of Grimsby and Leeds, 48-year-old Dirk Edge has been found to possess an alarming collection of indecent images involving children.The case was brought before Grimsby Crown Court, where Judge Mark Bury delivered a stern judgment, emphasizing the grave implications of Edge’s actions.
Judge Bury stated, “Someone, somewhere has abused a child.
If it was not for people like you, there would not be the market for such abuse that there is.” This comment underscored the serious nature of the offense and the societal harm caused by individuals involved in the distribution and possession of child exploitation material.
It was revealed during the proceedings that Edge, a lorry driver with a history of pornography addiction, had amassed a staggering total of 12,000 images depicting sexually abused children.
Among these images, hundreds were of an extremely disturbing and graphic nature, highlighting the severity of his misconduct.
The court heard that Edge had admitted to six counts of making indecent images of children.
Prosecutor Jeremy Evans explained that police investigations were initiated after a complaint was lodged by a 14-year-old girl who had been contacted by Edge.
The girl was identified as a friend of a teenage boy, who was the son of a fellow lorry driver with whom Edge had developed a friendship.
Despite the initial complaint, Edge denied any wrongdoing, and police initially took no further action.
However, subsequent investigations led authorities to his former residence in Southland Court, Grimsby, where they seized two laptops.
Forensic analysis of these devices revealed a history of deleted images, including thousands of photographs of sexually abused children, with some dating back to September 28 of the previous year.
Following these findings, police tracked Edge to Leeds, where he was arrested in October and taken to Pudsey Police Station.
During a detailed interview, Edge confessed to being addicted to pornography, taking responsibility for downloading the illegal images, and accessing illicit websites.
His mental health was also discussed, with his legal representative, Richard Hackfath, highlighting that Edge suffered from mental health issues and a personality disorder that contributed to his social isolation.
In sentencing, Judge Bury sentenced Edge to 11 months in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of ten years.
A sexual offender prevention order was also imposed, restricting Edge’s access to the internet to prevent further offenses and protect the community from potential harm.
