September 2007 Judges refuse paedophile’s appeal A PAEDOPHILE who had sex with a schoolgirl has failed in a bid to get his jail term reduced. Married father of two, Dinesh Vadgama, 46, of Heatherfold Way, Pinner, raped and molested the girl between 2003 and 2005. A successful businessman, Vadgama was caught when the girl feared becoming pregnant and told school friends by text message what had happened. He was jailed for 12 years at Isleworth Crown Court in November last year, but on Wednesday, September 5, his lawyers tried to get the sentence reduced. They asked Lord Justice Hughes, Mrs Justice Cox and Mr Justice Mitting, sitting at London’s Criminal Appeal Court, to slash the jail term by four years, claiming it was unjustifiably harsh. But Mrs Justice Cox, giving the judgement of the court, refused Vadgama permission to appeal. She said: “We are not persuaded the sentence of 12 years can be said to be even arguably manifestly excessive. “One must look at the level of culpability and the gravity of the effect on the victim.” When he is released, Vadgama will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
