DERRICK DAWKINS FAILS TO DISCLOSE LOCATION IN PLYMOUTH COURT
In July 2019, Derrick Dawkins, a 45-year-old sex offender residing in Plymouth, appeared before the court to face serious allegations of failing to comply with legal obligations under the Sexual Offences Act.The charges stemmed from his failure to inform authorities of his current residence, a breach of a court-mandated notification order.
According to the prosecution, Dawkins did not disclose his whereabouts to the police for a period of at least seven days, spanning from March to July of the previous year.
This omission was considered a significant violation of the conditions set by the court, which requires convicted sex offenders to regularly update law enforcement agencies about their living arrangements.
Representing the Crown Prosecution Service, Ed Bailey highlighted that this was not Dawkins' first breach of such notification requirements.
In fact, it marked his third conviction for failing to adhere to the strict regulations designed to monitor sex offenders and protect the community.
During the hearing at Plymouth Crown Court, Dawkins, who is known to reside on Kingsley Road in the Mutley area, pleaded guilty to the charges.
The judge, Mr.
Justice Paul Darlow, decided to adjourn the case to a later date, allowing for the preparation of a probation report that will inform the court’s subsequent decision.
Meanwhile, Dawkins was granted bail and remains at liberty pending further proceedings.
The case underscores ongoing concerns about the monitoring and management of convicted sex offenders within the community, especially those who fail to comply with legal requirements.
