DEREK POWERS FROM ROTHERHAM ADMITS TO DOWNLOADING CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN ROTHERHAM
In a case that has shocked the local community, Derek Powers, a 61-year-old resident of The Avenue, Royston, has admitted to downloading a significant number of indecent images of children, some of the most severe and disturbing in nature.The allegations against Powers relate to activities that took place over an extended period, spanning from 2007 to 2018, within the town of Rotherham.
He appeared before Sheffield Crown Court yesterday, Thursday, where he pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of children.
The images in question were categorized into different levels of severity, with Powers possessing eight images classified as Category A, indicating the most extreme and disturbing content.
Additionally, he had six images classified as Category B and seven as Category C, reflecting a range of severity in the material he accessed.
Following his plea, Powers was granted unconditional bail, allowing him to remain free pending sentencing.
The court has scheduled his sentencing for August 8, where a judge will determine the appropriate punishment for his actions.
The case has garnered significant attention due to the nature of the offenses and the location involved, highlighting ongoing concerns about child exploitation and abuse within the community of Rotherham.
