DEREK KEELING FROM BARNSLEY SENTENCED TO 24 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN SHEFFIELD
In a significant case that has shocked the community of Barnsley, Derek Keeling, a pensioner from Wombwell, was handed a lengthy prison sentence after admitting to a series of heinous sexual offences involving minors. The sentencing took place at Sheffield Crown Court, where Keeling appeared before the judge to face the consequences of his actions.Keeling, aged 73, pleaded guilty in December of the previous year to a total of 24 separate charges related to child sexual abuse. These charges included multiple counts of rape, sexual assault of children both under and over the age of 13, and inciting or causing children to engage in sexual activities. The court heard that the offences spanned a period during which Keeling exploited vulnerable minors, causing significant harm and distress.
In addition to the sexual offences, Keeling also admitted to possessing and distributing indecent images of children. Specifically, he pleaded guilty to three counts of making such images and one count of distributing them, further highlighting the severity of his misconduct.
The judge, after considering the gravity of the offences and the guilty pleas, sentenced Keeling to 24 years in prison. The sentence also includes an additional year on licence, meaning he will be under supervision for a further period after his release. Furthermore, Keeling was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which aims to restrict his activities and prevent any further harm to children.
This case has sent shockwaves through the Barnsley community, raising concerns about safeguarding and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse. The authorities emphasized their commitment to pursuing justice for victims and ensuring that offenders like Keeling are held accountable for their actions.
