February 2016 Pervert admits having more than 13,000 indecent images of children A 63 year old Cheltenham man has today admitted having more than 13,000 indecent images of children on his computers – and over 450 illegal videos. At Gloucester Crown Court, Derek Hewitson of Lansdown Crescent pleaded guilty to 12 charges of making indecent photographs and videos of children and one of possessing prohibited imagery between 15 Dec 2014 and 8 Sept 2015 The total number of still images referred to in the charges is 13,294 and there are 462 videos listed.  Asking for a pre-sentence report on Hewitson before he is sentenced, defence solicitor Steve Young said his client has only one previous criminal conviction and that was for drink driving in 1997. Judge Euan Ambrose agreed to adjourn for the probation service to prepare a report on Hewitson and told him to return on March 3rd. He warned him that jail will be a real possibility. “I am sure you have been advised of the sentencing guidelines for this type of case,” the judge said. “There may be a prison sentence. “Don’t leave court today thinking that because I have ordered a report the court is looking at a specific sentence. “All sentencing options, including custody, are very much open to the sentencing judge.”
