DEREK CROXON'S SHOCKING SEX OFFENSES IN CAMBRIDGE LEAD TO JAIL SENTENCE
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Cambridge community, Derek Croxon, a 38-year-old man from Victoria Road, has been convicted of indecently assaulting a teenage boy.The disturbing incidents, which occurred in 1998, only came to public attention in June of this year after the victim's girlfriend disclosed the abuse to his mother, prompting an investigation.
During the court proceedings at Cambridge Crown Court, Croxon pleaded guilty to two charges of indecent assault.
These charges stemmed from two separate occasions when he inappropriately touched the teenage boy.
In addition to these admissions, police interviews revealed that Croxon made several other confessions related to similar misconduct, which had not been disclosed by the victim during initial reports.
The defense, represented by Sally Hobson, acknowledged Croxon's inability to fully explain his actions.
She stated, "He cannot account for his behaviour but is aware of the damage caused to a large number of people." Ms.
Hobson also emphasized that Croxon had no prior history of offending in this manner.
Furthermore, she highlighted that Croxon has long struggled with alcohol dependency, which she said contributed to memory distortion and loss, potentially affecting his recollection of events.
Judge Jonathan Haworth, presiding over the case, described the offenses as a disturbing development in Croxon's sexual conduct.
He sentenced Croxon to a total of 12 months in prison, with the requirement that he serve six months behind bars.
Additionally, Croxon was placed on a supervised three-year extended license, during which he must complete a specialized program for sex offenders.
The judge also ordered that Croxon register as a sex offender within three days of his release from prison, a requirement that will remain in effect indefinitely.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance and community awareness regarding sexual offenses, especially those that come to light after many years.
The sentencing aims to both punish the offender and protect the public from further harm.
