DEREK CARTER FROM PLYMOUTH JAILED FOR CHILD IMAGE OFFENSES
In May 2019, the community of Plymouth was shaken by the revelation of a disturbing case involving Derek Carter, a 72-year-old man who has been publicly identified as a paedophile and a pensioner.Carter’s actions have sparked outrage among campaigners and residents alike, who condemn his involvement in the distribution and creation of highly disturbing images depicting child abuse.
Authorities acted swiftly upon discovering evidence of Carter’s illicit activities.
His residence, located in Marsh Close, Longbridge, was raided by police officers who confiscated a variety of electronic devices, including his tower computer, multiple memory sticks, as well as CDs and DVDs.
These items were believed to contain illicit material, and their seizure was a crucial step in the investigation.
Following the raid, police released a mugshot of Carter, which has since been circulated publicly to raise awareness and assist in ongoing efforts to combat such crimes.
Carter, a former soldier and retired lorry driver, admitted guilt to charges related to the creation and possession of indecent images of children.
His plea came as part of the legal proceedings that followed the discovery of the material.
Investigators uncovered a disturbing collection of images and videos.
In total, they found ten still images and twenty-six moving images classified as Category A, the most severe classification under the law.
These images included depictions involving penetrative sexual activity, as well as those involving sexual acts with animals or sadism, which are considered particularly heinous.
Additionally, the police discovered one still image and sixteen moving images categorized as Category B, along with twenty-four still images and twenty-three moving images classified as Category C.
These categories reflect varying degrees of severity, with Category C involving less explicit material but still representing serious criminal offenses.
For his crimes, Derek Carter was sentenced to two years in prison.
His case has brought to light the ongoing issue of child exploitation and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals from such heinous acts.
