ISLE OF WIGHT PAEDOPHILE BREACHES COURT ORDER AGAIN
An Isle of Wight man named Derek Bayton has been involved in breaching a court order related to his sex offender registration. On June 3, he appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates in Newport. Bayton, aged 63, admitted to failing to adhere to the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders’ Register, after the offence occurred on May 7. Prosecutor Lauren McConnell explained that Bayton is a previously convicted sex offender who received a 14-month suspended sentence in December 2018 for three counts of possessing indecent images of children. She added that he was sentenced again in February 2024, to an eight-month jail term (suspended for 24 months), for further child sex abuse offences. During that incident, he was found plugging a USB containing child sex abuse images into his computer, which resulted in his placement on the Sex Offenders’ Register for another ten years. McConnell stated he was required to report to the police annually and was due to do so on May 7, but failed to register until May 12, thus breaching his court order. Bayton’s defense lawyer, Jim Osborne, explained that he neglected to register because he was caring for his ailing mother, who was soon moving into a care home. The court decided to adjourn the case until July 4, and Bayton was granted unconditional bail.
