DEREK BAILEY FROM MORAY WORKING FOR CHILDREN 1ST WHILE IN INVERNESS PRISON

In a disturbing development, Derek Bailey, a convicted paedophile from Moray, is reportedly engaged in fundraising activities for the charity Children 1st while serving his sentence at Inverness Prison. Bailey, who was sentenced to three years in prison in July 2005, was convicted after authorities uncovered over 3,000 indecent images of children stored on his laptop, along with 100 videos of explicit and disturbing material involving minors. The images included some depicting children engaged in sexual acts with animals, a detail that Sheriff Ian Cameron described as 'disgusting' during Bailey's sentencing at Elgin Sheriff Court.

Bailey, a former RAF Sergeant, had stored this illicit content on a laptop kept in the sergeants' mess at RAF Kinloss, located in Moray. His arrest and subsequent conviction marked a significant case, with the court emphasizing the severity of his actions and the harm caused to victims. As part of his sentence, Bailey was also placed on the Sex Offenders' Register indefinitely, underscoring the ongoing concern about his potential risk to the community.

Despite his criminal background, reports indicate that Bailey has been involved in counting and managing funds collected through various charity activities within Inverness Prison. An insider revealed that Bailey has been responsible for handling cash from donation tubs and buckets used by fundraisers, a role he has been performing for several months. There are also claims that he might be attempting to participate in or organize fundraising efforts, which has caused outrage among fellow inmates and staff alike.

Prison authorities and the Scottish Prison Service have responded to these reports, stating that all prisoner activities are strictly supervised and that inmates do not have contact with the outside world during such work. A spokeswoman emphasized that prisoners are encouraged to contribute positively to society through supervised activities within the prison environment. However, the fact that Bailey, a known sex offender, is involved in charity work has raised serious concerns.

Children 1st, the charity targeted by Bailey's fundraising efforts, has launched an investigation to ensure that Bailey does not come into contact with children or engage in any activities that could compromise their safety. Mafe Marwick, the charity's fundraising director, expressed gratitude to the Scottish Daily Mirror for highlighting Bailey's involvement. She reaffirmed the organization's commitment to protecting children and maintaining its integrity, stating, 'Our absolute priority is to protect children and the good name of the charity. No one deserves repentance from a paedophile more than children who have suffered abuse.' She also clarified that if any funds were raised in Bailey's name, the charity would refuse them and would not allow its name to be used to benefit anyone other than the children it serves.

Meanwhile, a prison spokesperson confirmed that inmates at HMP Inverness are encouraged to contribute to the community through supervised activities, but emphasized that all such work is conducted within the prison's strict regulations. The case of Derek Bailey has sparked widespread concern about the potential risks posed by convicted offenders and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable populations from exploitation or harm, even within the confines of correctional facilities.
