Men jailed for 1977 child abuse
Two Derbyshire men in their 70s have been sent to prison for 10 years after sexually abusing a young girl over a period of four years.
In June Dennis White, 74, from South Normanton, was found guilty of four counts of rape at Derby Crown Court.
Sydney Dables, 72, from Alfreton, admitted four charges of rape and four charges of aiding and abetting rape.
The offences took place between 1977 and 1981 when their victim was aged between 10 and 14.
Both men were put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) praised the bravery of the woman who only recently felt able to come forward.
Vee Monro, from Derbyshire CPS, said: “We hope today’s outcome encourages anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse to come forward and report it, knowing that regardless of whether it took place the day before or many years before we will take their complaint seriously.”
