BURNLEY PAEDOPHILE DENNIS WALSH SENTENCED FOR SAINSBURY'S TOILET ABUSE

In a disturbing incident that took place in Burnley, Lancashire, Dennis Walsh, a man with a known history of sexual offenses, was convicted and sentenced for his heinous actions involving a seven-year-old boy.

The assault occurred in the restroom of a Sainsbury's supermarket located on Active Way in Burnley during November of the previous year.

According to court proceedings, the young boy had gone to use the toilet while his stepmother and sister were also in the store.

After a few minutes, the family members exited the restroom and waited outside, checking to see if the boy was still inside.

The stepmother, Amanda Johnson, then opened the men's toilet door and called out to him, noticing that one of the cubicles was occupied.

The boy responded from inside, and shortly after, he emerged from the restroom, visibly distressed.

Ms.

Johnson recounted that the boy appeared unusually quiet and later confided that he had been nearly kidnapped.

He described how a man had grabbed his arm and refused to let go.

Concerned, the family took him to a police station to report the incident.

During the journey, the boy disclosed that Walsh had inappropriately touched him in the supermarket toilet.

Further details revealed that the young victim was exhibiting signs of trauma, such as refusing to sleep and wearing boxing gloves in bed.

The court heard that Walsh, aged 39, had approached the boy earlier, offering him 20 pence and then pulling him into a cubicle.

Inside, Walsh allegedly pulled down the boy’s pants and underpants.

The boy asked to leave, but Walsh told him, “not yet.” It was at this point that the boy’s stepmother entered the restroom, shouting to her son.

Walsh instructed the boy not to tell anyone about what had happened.

Following the incident, police issued an appeal to identify the suspect.

Walsh’s mother saw the broadcast and confronted her son, urging him to surrender to authorities.

Walsh subsequently attended a police station the next day.

During questioning, he denied the allegations, claiming he entered the cubicle to change an incontinence pad.

However, forensic analysis of the boy’s underpants revealed Walsh’s DNA on the waistband, providing crucial evidence against him.

The court was informed that Walsh had previously been convicted of a similar offense in February 2017, for which he received a 16-month prison sentence suspended for two years.

He had also breached that sentence by violating a sexual harm prevention order.

Walsh, residing on Albert Street in Burnley, pleaded guilty to charges of sexually assaulting a child under 13, breaching a sexual harm prevention order, and breaching the terms of his suspended sentence.

Judge Sara Dodd sentenced Walsh to seven and a half years in prison, with an additional seven-year extension on license.

She also imposed a lifelong sexual harm prevention order and required Walsh to register as a sex offender.

The judge expressed concern over the lasting impact on the young victim, noting that the boy had changed significantly since the assault.

He was now struggling academically, refusing to participate in sports, and experiencing panic attacks.

The court also heard that the boy was reluctant to visit his father, fearing further harm.

Judge Dodd emphasized the potential danger Walsh posed to children, stating, “There is a significant risk you will commit further sexual offenses, causing serious physical and psychological harm.” The case underscores the ongoing threat posed by individuals with a history of sexual offenses, especially those who breach court orders and continue to pose risks to vulnerable children.
