FORMER EVESHAM HOTEL WORKER DENNIS KACHECHE JAILED FOR SEX WITH 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In August 2010, a former hotel waiter from Evesham was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for engaging in sex with a 15-year-old girl at a balloon festival in a park. This incident occurred just five months after 23-year-old Dennis Kacheche received a three-year community order for grooming a 14-year-old girl online.

Kacheche, who previously resided at Fountain Court, Waterside, Evesham, had pleaded not guilty to rape. However, this plea was accepted by Worcester Crown Court after he admitted to a charge of sexual activity with a child. Prosecutor Lee Marklew explained that the victim was on Crown Meadow with friends during the Balloon Festival on August 22 of the previous year when Kacheche approached her. According to Mr. Marklew, the girl was flattered by his attention, ignored warnings from friends, and accompanied him to a secluded meadow near the park.

There, Kacheche kissed her, stripped her, and they engaged in unprotected sex. The girl, a virgin, was said to have consensually participated, though her age was known to Kacheche, who was told by friends that his behavior was appalling. During police interviews, Kacheche initially lied about the encounter until DNA evidence from his underwear proved otherwise.

Mr. Marklew added that Kacheche was previously convicted last year after a three-day trial for grooming a 14-year-old girl. He had sent her 42 sexually explicit messages and lured her to his flat, though no sex took place as she was accompanied by a friend.

Kacheche's defense solicitor, Abigail Nixon, stated that he was a Malawi national who had been living in the UK since he was 15. She highlighted that his early guilty plea minimized the distress inflicted on the young witnesses. The victim was nearly 16 when the sexual activity occurred, which would have made it legal.

It was revealed that Kacheche had been expelled by his mother due to excessive drinking and had been sleeping rough, having already spent 11 months in custody.

Judge Toby Hooper QC sentenced Kacheche to be compulsorily registered as a sex offender for life and imposed a sexual offences prevention order banning him from contacting anyone under 16. Addressing Kacheche, the judge stated, "The law exists to protect children, and you didn’t learn your lesson from your previous court appearance."
