DENNIS DOBSON'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN HULL: PAEDOPHILE'S FINAL DAYS IN PRISON AND HIS SHOCKING REJECTION OF EARLY RELEASE

In October 2021, the tragic and disturbing story of Dennis Dobson, a convicted paedophile from Hull, took a somber turn as he faced the end of his life behind bars.

Dobson, who had been serving a 21-year sentence for heinous crimes committed against young girls, was admitted to hospital after suffering a heart attack at HMP Full Sutton.

His health rapidly declined, and during his hospital stay, he tested positive for COVID-19, prompting his swift return to the prison's medical facilities.

While in the prison’s palliative care unit, Dobson received end-of-life treatment, with medical professionals and prison authorities contemplating options for his release on compassionate grounds.

A prison general practitioner discussed the possibility of him being allowed to return home, considering his frail health and terminal condition.

However, Dobson was resolute in his decision, making it clear that he would not accept freedom if it meant dying outside prison walls.

According to the report from the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman, Dobson was unwavering in his stance, insisting he would prefer to remain incarcerated until his death.

He ultimately succumbed to coronary heart disease on November 23 of the previous year, ending a life marked by both physical frailty and a dark criminal past.

Dobson’s criminal history was particularly disturbing; he was convicted in 2012 for a series of sexual offenses against four young girls, one as young as five, spanning over an 11-year period.

His crimes came to light after one of his victims confided in her teacher, leading to an investigation that uncovered his long history of abuse.

At Hull Crown Court, Dobson was found guilty by a jury that deliberated for only 45 minutes, after an eight-day trial.

His convictions included two counts of rape, three attempted rapes, and ten sexual assaults.

The severity of his crimes and the betrayal of trust placed in him as a babysitter prompted Judge James Sampson to sentence him to 21 years in prison.

Dobson’s health was already compromised when he entered the prison system in 2011, awaiting trial.

He suffered from multiple chronic conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes.

His medical history was further complicated by two previous heart attacks in 2006.

In 2019, he was diagnosed with cancer and kidney disease, and hospital staff determined that he was too frail for active treatment, recommending palliative care instead.

Throughout his incarceration, Dobson refused several opportunities for early release.

In early 2020, a prison GP discussed the possibility of a temporary license to leave prison, but Dobson declined.

At the time, he was living in east Hull, unemployed, and claiming disability benefits for a back injury and diabetes.

His reputation among those who knew him was equally troubling.

Children under his care described him as a strict and authoritarian figure, often threatening them with violence if they considered revealing his crimes.

His history of abuse and threats created an environment of fear and mistrust among his victims.

Dobson’s health deteriorated further in October 2020 when he was hospitalized after suffering a heart attack.

His condition worsened, leading to the amputation of his left foot due to an ulcer on October 13.

Less than a year later, on November 12, 2021, he was returned to HMP Full Sutton, where he remained until his death eleven days later.

His case remains a stark reminder of the devastating impact of sexual abuse and the importance of justice for victims.

The sentence and subsequent death of Dennis Dobson underscore the gravity of his crimes and the long-lasting trauma inflicted upon his young victims, who now face the difficult process of healing and recovery.
