DENIS SIMMONS FROM RUISLIP SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IN HARROW

In a case that has shocked the local community, 77-year-old Denis Simmons of Ruislip was sentenced to four and a half years in prison on Tuesday after being found guilty of indecently assaulting a young boy. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about Simmons' method of targeting vulnerable children within the area.

According to court records, Simmons, a pensioner, deliberately infiltrated a local single-parent support group in Ruislip, ostensibly to offer assistance and companionship. However, his true intent was far more sinister. Over a period spanning from 1990 to 1996, when the victim was between the ages of seven and thirteen, Simmons engaged in a pattern of sexual abuse. He would participate actively in the group's activities, gaining the trust of both the children and their guardians, which allowed him to carry out his heinous acts in a manner that was both calculated and manipulative.

The depravity of Simmons' actions was brought to light only after a decade had passed. The victim, now an adult, unexpectedly encountered Simmons in a B&Q store in Ruislip. This chance meeting led to the victim coming forward and sharing his story with authorities, a move that proved crucial in bringing Simmons to justice. The investigation was led by Detective Constable Julia Mayer of the Edgware Child Abuse Investigation Unit, who expressed her condemnation of Simmons' predatory behavior.

Detective Constable Mayer stated, “This man is a predatory paedophile who has brought misery to a great many children due to his actions. This result is testimony to the brave victim that came forward to police after so long and ensured through his co-operation that we were able to succeed in our prosecution. We know that Simmons has a history of over 30 years of offences and we would urge anyone who has been a victim of Denis Simmons to come forward and speak to police.”

During the court proceedings, Simmons admitted to three charges of indecent assault. As a result, he was sentenced to a prison term and is now required to register as a sex offender for life, a measure that aims to monitor and prevent further offenses. The case has prompted renewed calls within the community of Ruislip for vigilance and support for victims of abuse, emphasizing the importance of reporting suspicious behavior to authorities to protect vulnerable children from predators like Simmons.
